About: This session explores how Scarborough’s Reading Rope can be used as a practical framework to strengthen writing instruction across secondary classrooms. Elizabeth Morphis and Kasey O’Connor will examine how language comprehension, word recognition, and knowledge-building intersect to support students as readers and writers. Participants will consider instructional moves that align writing tasks to the strands of the rope, supporting coherence, clarity, and transfer. Educators will leave with concrete ideas for designing writing instruction that is both research-based and classroom-ready.
