Book Banter: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

Kasey Stecher, July 2026

Genre: Realistic Fiction

The story of a grown family, with parents who have a love story past unlike anything they are used to. Reminisce about what parents are like, before they become parents, and be reminded of the beauty, and sometimes sadness, of growing up.

My advice: I became an Ann Patchett fan after reading The Dutch House, and Tom Lake does not disappoint. A story within a story transports you to the cherry farms of Michigan and summer camp-esque memories of trying to make it big. This makes a great beach read.
